7 God loves you

Rom 8.37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39. neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Why, with all our capacity for love towards our own children, do we sometimes doubt the love God has for us; His children? Is it something to do with rejection we felt at some point of our lives? Perhaps we find it difficult to trust others because of past hurts and now have carried this attitude towards God. Whatever the reason it must be understood that it is only us who are feeling this way, God does not. Paul in this section of his letter describes the unfailing love of God through His Son our Lord Jesus. Some people go to conferences and praise nights trying to 'set the tone'. to feel God's love and while this can help with reflection and praise. And the being around other like minded people can give the feeling of increased faith and intimacy, Paul assures us that the closeness with God more than feelings. Indeed he talks of times of trouble, persecution and hardship. Yet always with an assurance of God being there.

Paul had been through many trials and alone on many occasions and yet in these times he felt no further from the love of God than when he was in the midst of his brothers and sisters in the faith praising and singing to God. We all need to trust God in His word that when He says He is with us, then He is indeed with us, and only if we turn our back on Him would we truly be outside the arms of His love.

We read in Deut 6:31 He will never leave you nor forsake you.

And again in John 14:21 Whoever has My commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me, he who loves me, he will be be loved by My Father and I too will love him and show myself to him.

Can Jesus be a liar? No! He loves you and keeps on loving you. Notice though the condition attached. "Whoever has my commands and obeys them". This is not a condition of salvation, but the evidence of salvation. If anyone lives in deliberate sin and refuses to acknowledge the life Jesus requires us to live, they show their selves to be mere listeners and not doers of the word, and their faith is in vain. Is sin ruining your walk with God? Turn again to Him and give Him the glory and allow Him to change you. God will never turn you away when you seek Him with all your heart.
Rom 10:!0 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved
